Equitech 2030

Shaping the first Equitech city

In mid-2021, we put out a call for volunteers with vision and expertise. We needed people to generate Baltimore-specific strategies to nurture, support, attract, and retain entrepreneurs and startups at all stages, and from all backgrounds.

More than 200 people from tech, industry, academia and the community raised their hands to help, filling and energizing 18 sector- and activity-focused teams.

THE RESULT? EQUITECH 2030.

18 TEAMS. 152 PRIORITIES. 1 FOCUS: BUILDING AN INCLUSIVE, TECH-FOR-ALL ECOSYSTEM IN BALTIMORE

The report engages a range of people – from elementary school students in Baltimore City schools to leaders of corporate America.

The Teams developed strategic recommendations in three timeframes:

  • Quick wins – issues that we can tackle before the end of 2022.
  • Systems changes – thorny challenges that we can addressed by 2029.
  • Moonshots – big goals that we can reach by 2030.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

The Equitech 2030 report is just the start. At UpSurge and across Baltimore, the work to build the first Equitech city is picking up speed. With partners – those named in the recommendations and those inspired to join the work – we will use the report as a stake in the ground, rallying others to implement this ambitious vision.
