The Baltimore tech ecosystem is shaping up to be a vibrant landscape, brimming with disruptive ideas and fearless entrepreneurs. With the recent activity, the ecosystem has showcased resilience, adaptability, and the relentless pursuit of progress. In the last few weeks we saw Baltimore coming together and celebrate founders at MD Innovation Lab Pitch Day and Towson College Cup. GBC unveiled the economic scorecard for the Greater Baltimore region reporting that our region attracted 347 investment and development deals to the tune of $4.19 billion in 2023. These investments will create 23,000 new direct jobs, generating $1.7 billion in labor income.
Many amazing Baltimore organizations hosted Solar Eclipse viewing gatherings to bring the community closer together. It was an opportunity to share this amazing celestial phenomena with children and adults and get more Baltimoreans interested in space and science. Baltimore also stood together to remember the late Pava LaPere as Johns Hopkins rededicated its innovation hub Fast Forward U to her name and legacy. The Pava Marie LaPere Center for Entrepreneurship will continue to equip Johns Hopkins students, alumni, and community changemakers to build impactful, sustainable ventures.
These activities bear testament to the enduring progress we are seeing in the Baltimore ecosystem in general. It is as if the ecosystem wins and successes eclipsed the self-effacing image of Baltimore. While these regional activities are putting Baltimore on the map, our community continues to come together to support each other and collaborate to build our tech ecosystem.
Last week, we expressed our gratitude to the amazing mentors and experts who helped founders get unstuck on a problem, provided a helping hand and showed them the way. One such expert will be joining us this Tuesday to share with us his expertise. We are thrilled to have Tariq Najee-ullah, CEO of Patent Insider join us for a masterclass on Intellectual Property Strategy, moderated by David Narrow, CEO of Sonavex Inc. You can still RSVP here!
Tariq will also be joining us for Equitech Tuesday at Guilford Hall Brewery. Join us and connect with founders and innovators across our ecosystem and toast to the Baltimore ecosystem!
See you at #Equitech Tuesday… where the tech community gathers.
PS: RSVP today to join UpSurge at our Inaugural Annual Meeting on April 23 to discuss the state of the tech ecosystem, celebrate our progress, and connect with founders, investors, and partners!
