A Message from UpSurge's Newest Team Member and Program Manager : Rimjhim Khandelwal

Some of you may have already seen me milling about with the rest of the UpSurge team but I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself! I am Rimjhim, the newest addition to the UpSurge team and a newly minted Baltimore resident. I just moved here from DC where I was wrapping up my MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. And wouldn’t you know it, I’ve already fallen in love! With Baltimore and the Blue Crab! (…as she proceeds to put Old Bay on everything).
So what brings me to Baltimore and UpSurge? Having worked in the venture capital industry as an attorney, there were some patterns that were too strong to ignore. Most VC-backed businesses’ founding teams looked very homogenous. Moreover, as an ex-founder myself, being underserved and overlooked prima facie was disappointing. Even though I had not heard of the term “Equitech,” I immediately became a believer! And when I met the UpSurge team, I knew I was in the right place.
Walking to the Peabody Library after my interview with the team, I was in awe of Baltimore’s beauty. As I toured the Walters’ Art Museum, I was struck by the culture of Baltimore. At my first Equitech Tuesday, I was overwhelmed by the warm welcome! And, at my first Orioles game, surrounded by founders and other Baltimore tech ecosystem players, I was sold on the promise of Baltimore. After three weeks on the job, I’m energized for the work ahead.
The intersection of culture, creativity, and tech is personal for me. Having the opportunity to meet creative and passionate people every day is the cherry on the cake! Interacting with and supporting creative, innovative people feeds my own creativity. As I set up my new apartment, I feel excited about connecting with all the amazing people in the Baltimore community and building the world’s first #Equitech City!
